Eminem Is The Top Selling Artist Of The Decade
Eminem has had a very good decade to say the least. Today Nielsen Soundscan released their lists of the best-selling artists, albums and songs of the 2000s and Em topped the list as best selling musician.
The Detroit emcee sold more than 32.2 million albums in the past decade beating out the Beatles to take the title of top selling artist. Although the Beatles did end up with the top selling album as they sold just about 11.5 million copies of their 2000's greatest-hits compilation.
Even though Eminem didn’t have the highest selling total of a single album, he was the only artist with two albums on the list. Em’s The Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem Show hit the list at #4 and #5, selling 10.2 million and 9.8 million copies.
The only areas that Eminem or the Beatles didn't come out on top this decade were singles and radio play. Nielsen Soundscan started tracking digital sales in July 2003 and Flo-Rida's Low was the decade's highest selling digital song. The single was downloaded 5.2 million times.
Nielsen formed the lists using information collected from January 1, 2000 through November 1, 2009.
